For the opera of Carmen, director Colm Summers launched us into a 2008 Western world, bringing to the stage Cowboy Carmen. Within a world that battles the duty of a soldier and the desire of love….or lust… a saucy and rebellious cowgirl takes on this wild ride—using Live Cinema to not only emphasise the spectacle of Carmen and the Bullfighting Champion Escamillo, but to speak to our modern response to the overlooked violence against women in the media. Bringing this classical and unforgettable story into a completely modern age.
